Device Targeting: Different Journeys for Mobile and Desktop

3 mins read

People on a phone and people on a laptop often want different things. Device targeting lets one short link send mobile visitors one place and desktop visitors another. The classic use case is app install: phones go to the App Store or Google Play, laptops go to your website.

Use cases

  • App install campaigns: mobile → store, desktop → web app.
  • Download buttons: mobile → mobile app, desktop → desktop installer.
  • Layout-sensitive pages: send each device to a page designed for it.
  • Support: mobile → WhatsApp chat, desktop → helpdesk.

Combine with geo

Device targeting stacks with geo targeting: 'iOS users in Germany' can go to a German App Store page while 'Android users in Germany' go to Google Play — all from one short link. The rules are evaluated in order and a default catches everyone else.

See it in the data

After a campaign, the analytics view shows the mobile/desktop split, so you can confirm the targeting actually matched real traffic. See plans.
